New World Record For Longest Dj Club Marathon

DJ Gee Papa's world record attemptNicosia, Cyprus – Last summer DJ Gee Papa aka George Papapetrou from Nicosia DJ’d for an astounding 105 hours in an attempt to take the crown for the world’s Longest Club DJ Marathon.
Cyprus’ DJ Gee Papa sets a date with Guinness World RecordsHowever, his superhuman effort wasn’t officially verified by ‘the ultimate authority on record-breaking achievement’ – Guinness World Records. He was devastated. But, where most people might have given up on the idea, Gee refined his mission for 2008, obtaining sponsorship, media support and, most importantly, booking an official from Guinness World Records to oversee the gig! So the dates are now set – from Tuesday 1st to Sunday 6th July – for a six-day-long DJ-athon at Dot Club in Nicosia. With ANT1 TV and ANT FM as media sponsors, the epic event will be run in collaboration with Nicosia Municipal Council and the Greek Embassy in Cyprus. And, through cooperation with the Greek Ambassador and Greek Embassy in Cyprus, part of the net income from the event will be donated to victims of last year’s fire disaster in Greece. A professional DJ since 1990, Gee studied psychology prior to playing clubs alongside the likes of Tiësto, Sasha, Deep Dish and James Zabiela. He has also worked as a radio producer and DJ tutor, hosting local classes for over 30 students. To prepare for this Herculean task though, Gee’s been running for two to three hours a day, avoiding using the toilet (although under regulations he’s allowed a five-minute toilet break every hour) and not eating or sleeping much either. Inspired by Armin van Buuren’s track ‘This World Is Watching Me’, he’s even designed flyers and arranged a live DJ feed on the Cyprus-based social networking site www.we-r-you.com. 'This time it’s going to be official, verified on the spot by the Guinness representative!' commented Gee. ‘We’ve got some heavyweight support, including Nicosia Municipal Council, the Greek Embassy in Cyprus, ANT1 TV/ANT FM and Pioneer. I’m now focused on the big sleepless adventure up ahead and hope people around the world will show their support as I’m live in the mix at www.we-r-you.com.’ According to Guinness World Records, the record for the Longest Club DJ Marathon still stands at 88 hours, set between 30th July and 3rd August 2006, by Agustin E. Gonzalez Aguilar of Mexico. So although Gee is aiming to beat 105 hours, he will actually create a new record if he conquers 88 hours of continuous mixing. Using Pioneer CDJ-1000MK3s, a DJM-800 mixer, Funktion One loudspeakers and a whole lot of willpower, Gee plans to mix over 2,000 tracks and he’s not allowed to play the same track twice. Each of the six days will therefore take on a musical theme, including Latin, mainstream and electronic. Register at www.we-r-you.com to check out Gee’s extreme DJ mission, starting 8pm local time/GMT+3 or 5.00pm UK time on Tuesday 1st July. Footage will also be available after the event at www.djsounds.com.

BE PREPARED FOR THE NEW BREAK RECORD BY GEE PAPA
WATCH OUT...!!!

Some details about Breaking the Record

At 3am George Papapetrou, also known as DJ Gee Papa, broke the existing record of 103 hours. He continued to play until 6am, making him the world’s first DJ to play non-stop music for 106 hours.
During his playtime, Papapetrou only slept for a total of four hours. He was allowed to take a five-minute break every hour. Breaks not taken were carried over to the next hour which was how he managed to sleep for the brief time that he did. Although local media tried to contact the DJ yesterday, his cousin, Vicky Koula, said he was sleeping.
“While he was playing he was fine and alert. When it all ended he started to see a little bit funny and the exhaustion hit him,” she said. Koula said her cousin was driven home and crashed as soon as he got through the door. “I think he’ll sleep for a good 12 hours. Wouldn’t you if you’ve only slept four hours in 106 hours?”
She said her cousin felt extremely satisfied with having broken the record and that at 3am he became very emotional when he broke the 103-hour mark. “We still have to see if the breaks he didn’t take will be counted on to his total hours. If yes, it’ll bring his play time to 107 or 108 hours,” she said.
Papapetrou trained for seven months to break the world record. Up until last week, the world record had been 88 hours. But a London DJ then broke the record this weekend by playing for 103 hours, forcing the 33-year-old Cypriot to play for longer than he’d first anticipated.
The DJ played music out of Limassol’s Nautical Club with a play list that included mainstream music, R&B, House, Dance, 70s, 80s, Greek and Rock. He was not allowed to play the same piece of music again for a minimum of four hours.
Seven DJs had already tried and failed to beat the 88 hour world record. Tickets sales and the proceeds from T-shirt sales at the music marathon were donated to breast cancer forum Europa Donna Cyprus. The Association yesterday issued a press release thanking the DJ and congratulating him on his successful attempt. “These efforts give us the strength to carry on as much as possible raising sensitivity and awareness about breast cancer,” Europa Donna said.

ΠΑΓΚΟΣΜΙΟ ΡΕΚΟΡ QUINESS!! 105 ΩΡΕΣ, 5 ΜΕΡΟΝΥΧΤΑ

Think you got the stamina for a three or four-hour set? Then how about 105 hours of straight-up mixing?
That’s nearly five days behind the decks! Which is what DJ Gee Papa (aka George Papapetrou) from Nicosia, in Cyprus, did recently, earning him the top spot in the Guinness World Record book. Gee Papa played an estimated 2300 tracks using two Pioneer CDJ-1000 MK3s, a DJM-800 mixer, two Vestax turntables and Funktion One loudspeakers.

Under official rules, he was allowed four hours sleep over the whole period, plus trips to the bathroom. He’s a real marathon man!
